West Ham deny bid has been received.

No evidence that he even wants to leave.

Not really much to go on here is there?

2 years left on his contract, seems happy enough at West Ham and has a chance to get some first team football with Tomkins leaving and potential Europa League.

We have sold most of our so called stars on the cheap in my opinion,we must put our foot down and if we are to sell we demand top dollar,if they don't like it they can do one.

bit of a risk waiting to see what we'd get at tribunal.

if he doesnt want to be here, then get rid.

Re: Manchester City offer £15m for
Would be madness to sell him for £15m.

John Stones has proven that in 12 months time Oxford could be worth £50m. If he has a shit season we'd still easily pick up £9m for him.

Re: Manchester City offer £15m for
He must have started 2 prem games last year and he's worth 15m? lol

Sell him. If he and his family cant see the benefit of learning your trade at 18yrs old in one of the hardest leagues in the world there's no point in keeping him. Utterly the wrong attitude for us.

Lets be real. If he was really that good, now, he would have been a starter last year nearly every game. No manager is shy of playing youngsters who can really do it (look at Rooney, Fabregas etc..).

He wasnt playing because he isnt good enough yet, that simple. He could get better but he will need games, real competitive games where he learns things that cannot be taught anywhere else. Is he lilkey to get those games at City? Has any youngster got those games at City, ever?

The guy's team are letting him down badly here.
Shame.

I think the CL rules are something like 8 home grown players out of the squad of 25, of which 4 must have been registered with your club for at least 3 years before the age of 21 and 4 must have been registered with any club in your country for at least 3 years before the age of 21.

There's also an unlimited B list teams can have of U21 players, but they all have to have been registered for your club for at least 2 years. I think this B list is probably another reason why clubs like Man City want to buy up 16/17 year olds. When they're a couple of years older they can be used as squad backups without being named as part of the 25 - probably useful for those piss easy group games where you can rest some of the 1st team squad.

Oxford's biggest problem will probably come in the shape of his mother.

Re: Manchester City offer £15m for
With the likes of Fletcher and Samuelsen leaving bigger clubs to come to us, and Oxford choosing us over bigger clubs, all because there is a perceived better chance of first team football, youngsters are waking up to some home truths. These stories will get in the heads of youth players making career decisions.

We have to make sure they get game time to keep this reputation alive and justified......if they are good enough, of course.

No, seriously. Everything he said is pure horse.

Re: Manchester City offer £15m for
Yeah sure he is H93!

Anyway, I think Rodwell did an interview on sky after leaving Man City and said it was a disaster and that any young english player shouldn't join them

It's clear that Man City need to fill the quota of english players for their european teams, i think i read they were one of only a few clubs that were allowed to bend the rules because they were unable to name players who were trained at the club or something, so they're chasing these youngsters for big money now.

I dunno what the criteria is exactly for that rule in the CL, but I reckon as soon as Oxford is too old they wouldn't give a fuck.

He could have a career-ending injury tomorrow. His development could stall and never make it back to the Premier League, playing in the lower leagues for a fraction of what the top players do.

As I said, fair play to him for wanting to play first-team football but you can see how easy it is for players to have their heads turned by the big bucks.

Re: Manchester City offer £15m for
Shouldn't all be about money and as someone who loved playing the game, I couldn't think of anything worse than wasting a precious 2/3 years of what is a short career sitting on a bench.

And let's be honest, Bentley is probably still earning in a month what a load on here earn in a year!

Private Dancer 11:24 Wed Jul 20
Re: Manchester City offer £15m for
It sounds like Bentley is hedging his bets, ie he has enough confidence in his ability that if he goes to Brentford he will perform well and eventually get bought by a PL club, then he wlll get his 60k a week plus, if he goes to Arsenal it would surely be much less likely to happen. It is a gamble financially though, unless he is a rare breed of footballer today who doesn''t see money as his king.

Nagel 11:23 Wed Jul 20
Re: Manchester City offer £15m for
Marston, he's a 23 year old goalkeeper so he has probably a 15 year career ahead of him. Sounds to me like he's making a better long term decision, financially and otherwise.

Marston Hammer 11:18 Wed Jul 20
Re: Manchester City offer £15m for
i-Ron 10:52 Wed Jul 20

people go on about greed but I wouldn't blame Bentley for taking 60k a week not to play rather than a tenth of that to be first choice at a lower level.

of the course of a 3/4/5 year contract that's a massive difference and will be enough to set him & his family up financially for life.

fair play to him for wanting to play first-team football but completely understandable if he felt the money was too good to turn down.

Nagel 11:11 Wed Jul 20
Re: Manchester City offer £15m for
It's a slightly different situation for goalkeepers like Bentley though. Unlike outfield players a 3rd choice keeper isn't going to get even sub game time and probably won't be let out on loan either as they want him always there as back up in case of injury.

With outfield players a lot of them will think they'll get at least some chance to impress and probably have the ego to think they can take someone else's place. Or, for young players particularly, they can get a long term loan at a smaller club and still tell girls in nightclubs that they play for Chelsea or whoever, which is a big deal for some of them.

i-Ron 10:52 Wed Jul 20
Re: Manchester City offer £15m for
A mate of mine bumped into Daniel Bentley while doing a job for his old man. Just joined Brentford, he told him he had a mental offer from Arsenal up to 60k a week but was told he'll only be 3rd choice.

Rejected other prem clubs because they all told him he wouldn't play.

He took a 'pay cut' to go to the championship and negotiated clauses.

He told him his aim was to play regularly, to work his way up the ladder, to play in europe and for england.

Too many players these days opt for a prem club and within a few seasons they're a nobody. There's more failures than there is success stories.

Re: Manchester City offer £15m for
Oxford is seeing mates of his at other clubs being given bumper contracts after hardly appearing in the first team, some not at all, so hardly surprising that he and his agent may be looking for big money either here or elsewhere. There were rumours during last season that after his debut he, his family and agent were trying to push the club into giving him more playing time and threatening to leave for more money elsewhere. how true that is I have no idea

Re: Manchester City offer £15m for
As I see it our manager was a centre half, if anyone knows a decent player in that position then its him.

We sold Tomkins because it was a good deal and because Slav thinks we have better

If he thinks Burke is better than Oxford then who are we to argue ?... he sees these players every day and he knows what personalities they are
